The amygdala is the “Fear Control Mechanism.” It's the part of the brain responsible for many of our emotional responses and reactions.

Or “I need a Coke.” Or “I gotta have a Pepsi”.

Now, if you were to look at people’s brains BEFORE they began their mindfulness weight loss practice?
You would see extremely strong neural connections in the “Uh Oh center” related to food. Specifically concerning hunger or cravings in the body.
With these strong neural connections in place? You are far more likely to think there is a threat related to your survival. And that needs IMMEDIATE attention.
This is why your reaction to food is so strong, powerful and immediate. It becomes a life and death moment, doesn’t it?
Even worse, it’s all unconscious. You have zero control.
As you can imagine, like with any neural connections, they get stronger the more they are engaged.
In other words, the more you crave? The MORE you crave.
It’s a vicious cycle. Getting stronger and stronger all the time.
Your neural bonds of appetite sensations start out as wispy threads. And later, they turn into steel cables that can hold up the Golden Gate bridge.

#1: Those impossible-to-resist food cravings begin to fade away
